It started on Main Street in Morrisville
In 1923, a few years after graduating from the University at Buffalo’s pharmacy school, Lester Dougherty returned home and bought the business at 14 East Main Street from retiring pharmacist J.P. Wetmore — opening Dougherty’s Drug Store.
In those early days, Lester and his family lived right upstairs, and the Doughertys cared for their neighbors on Main Street for decades — first Lester, then his wife Hazel, then their sons George and John. The pharmacy has passed to new owners in the generations since, but the name and the hometown spirit behind it have never left. Today that tradition continues under owner Colin Valenta — now from three locations across Madison County.
